How to Program a Comcast Digital Cable Box

Programming your Comcast digital cable box should take less than five minutes to complete. While there are the basic elements of the cable box set-up (choosing what the LED on the front of the box displays), there are other customizable aspects, too. With a Comcast digital cable box, you can change the way your channel guide looks, add parental controls, and even set up your favorite channel list.

Instruction

1. Point the remote at the cable box and press the "Menu" button, Press "OK/Select" on the remote once. Scroll down to "Setup."
2. Select "Cable Box Setup" from the list.
3. Choose what the front screen LED will display. Use the back and forth arrows to scroll though your options. Your only display options are the time or the television channel.
4. Scroll down and choose the setting for the AC outlet. You will choose from either "Switched" or "Unswitched."
5. Select the RF bypass setting to say either "On" or "Off," and then press the "Last" button. RF bypass is rarely found on newer cable boxes. If you aren't splitting the cable to a second television, then leave the RF bypass setting on "Off."
6. Press "Last" on the remote and then "Guide Setup". Here you can choose how your guide is displayed. Use the arrow to navigate through the choices. You can choose the flip bar position, channel input option (auto-tune), when you receive reminders, and the height of each grid cell.
7. Press "Audio Setup" to configure the audio. Establish if the audio comes from the television speakers or a stereo system.
8. Select "Guide Color Setup" and scroll though the individual colors. When you find one you like, press "OK/Select," then press the "Last" button when done.
9. Select "Favorite Lists Setup" and then "New." Give your list a name by clicking on the keyboard icon. Next, press the heart icon to make the current channel your favorite. Scroll through the channels and press "OK/Select" when you locate a channel you want to make a favorite.
10. Select "Parental Control Setup." Input your pin and scroll through your options. Here you can choose to block by movie ratings, TV ratings, content, channels and title. To set a control, highlight it with the remote and press "OK/Select."
